From the Desk of the President...

Demetria Williams, GSCA PresidentThe Georgia School Counselors Association is a network of over 1,100 school counselors who are dedicated partners in our cause---Connecting Counselors….Supporting Students. The GSCA is the only organization which represents, promotes and enhances professional school counseling in Georgia. The GSCA Executive Committee and Leadership Team are committed to constant advocacy for our profession and the lives of the students we serve. The association is dedicated to providing school counselors with great experiences, a vibrant professional community, and essential tools to support success of the educator and students served daily.

We are an association on the move. The GSCA has an enhanced member’s only website section, new Twitter and Face book pages, great professional publications for the school counselor, a monthly e-newsletter, scholarships and much more. Additionally, we will launch our comprehensive school counseling advocacy campaign, that will included flyers, brochures, presentations and training for school counseling leaders on advocating for our profession and students.

This year’s theme is “Empowering Students to Imagine • Believe • Achieve.” Imagine the possibilities; believe in themselves and all they can accomplish; achieve at their greatest potential. School counselors work daily to empower students by removing barriers that interfere with achievement.

I would like to extend my gratitude to Mitch Miller, a former student, for designing the outstanding logo for this year. He has a promising future in the graphic arts field.

Additionally, I would like to personally invite you to attend the 2010 Annual Conference at the Classic Center in the beautiful classic city of Athens, Georgia, November 3-5. Putting on a two and a half day conference for school counselors, counselor educators, and administrators is no small feat. This event would not be possible without the help of the 2010 conference team, countless volunteers, speakers, and the executive office staff. They have all worked hard to ensure that the GSCA annual conference is one of the best professional development events that you will attend this year.

The GSCA believes in constant development for the school counselor and organization. Anytime you have a question, concern, suggestion or opinion about improving the GSCA, please share it with us. Please feel free to call the Executive Office toll free at 888.455.0997, locally at 770.971.6002 or via email at info@gaschoolcounselors.com. Thank you for your commitment and passion to the profession and students you serve.

All the best,

Demetria Williams
GSCA President 2010-2011
